Pretty lame on my part, but i'll blame it on a late night booking following a business class reservation through 5 countries that I had made prior (i.e. I should have known better).
The flight was sold out, as was every other flight/airline for a couple days. They were able to accomodate me on a flight to LAS, where I was able to drive home, and although I did have to pay a penalty, and a higher fare, they did give me credit for my previous internet purchased discount ticket.
They did not need to, and it was very nice of them on what was probably a crazy day for them due to New Years flights and horrible weather delays.
They do not fly on routes I am usually on, so will not be a regular - but was suprised that they were easy to work with.
As for the international trip -- yes it was flown, and I required several schedule changes during the trip, but given it was a full priced ticket, and my status with that airline -- I expected no change in costs or issues.
Good job Airtran -- and thanks.
I agree, it was nice they didn't tell him to take a hike!
Please dont feed the trolls.
I guess I don't understand. The OP showed up for a flight a month after it was booked, with no intervening notice, and was allowed to travel. And he liked the customer service he got. As to a "ride on a low cost carrier," let's see: the OP went on a transcontinental nonstop flight, with a Business Class cabin available--can't quite tell from the post if the OP used it, all of which would seem to me to me to also make the usual LCC issues/biases/hangups even further irrelevant.
