I've been lurking around here for a while - and finally have something that I can't seem to find an answer to anywhere.
I booked a flight for next week on AC going from CHC-YYZ (AC34/33 from SYD-YYZ, QF/NZ from CHC-SYD). The flights were booked online through an agent and my CC was charged at the time of booking.
It took a little while for the agent to send me my tickets (paper). The tickets list my credit card details under the payment section. However... for some reason a few days after I booked my tickets the money that was taken out of my account to pay for the tickets was put back. I called the agent and they say that the airline will be the one to take the payment out of my account.
I have the paper tickets with me ... but they still haven't deducted my card for the cost. I'm just worried that there's going to be a problem when I go to check in for my flight. I've never had an airline give me tickets without taking my money first... am I just worrying for no reason? I really would like to go home to YYZ!
Paper tix are like cash. I'm extremely surprised you haven't been charged yet.
FWIW STA travel (the USA site at least) doesn't even ask for an ISIC number. It just says 'you have to have one.' I have purchased at least 10-15 tickets from STA this calendar year and have not once been asked for my ISIC card.
To the OP: AFAIK, paper tickets are as good as cash. Once you have them, you can use them for the given itinerary.
Cheers,
I just found out today that they did charge my card...BUT not the card that I gave them at the time of booking!! For some reason they charged a card that I used to buy tickets with last year!
Not quite sure how ethical it is to charge a credit card without authorization (especially since I didn't provide the number in question at any time while making this booking)
Normally I'd make a fuss about it ... but I just want to get on that plane and go home for a too-short visit.
Keeping my fingers crossed that the IFE works.
And to hijack my own thread - does anyone know where the ACpower outlets are located on the armrest in Y? (I'm in an aisle seat, which I need due to a ridiculously small bladder so my seat won't have the outlet ...would it be possible without compromising the comfort of person sitting next to me to use theirs if they're not?)
I booked on May 28th with STA Travel and my flight is not until Friday (Jul4). I really should've known better and booked directly with AC, but I was being impatient and the AC website was not being friendly that evening.
I'll give the AC office a ring and double check with them.
Thanks for the advice... keeping my fingers crossed
STA Travel is a very reputable agency, I've booked tickets with them many times (mostly ex-USA) and have never had a problem.
Were these tickets special student fares? I ask because usually these fares from STA require an ISIC card. I'm guessing that if you didn't provide a legitimate one (or online, a legitimately valid ISIC card #) at the time of purchase, they can revoke the tickets because you have not met the requirements to be able to purchase that discounted fare.

If you're in a "C" or a "G" seat you're correct no power, but if you're in a "D" or a "H" then bingo you get power! As for hijacking your seat-mate's power the outlet is on the right hand side of the unit so it wouldn't interfere with their use or tray table.
How long ago did you book? Paper tickets aren't issuable by agents after 01JUN this year - that's more of a worry than the money if you ask me. Is the online agent a reputable one? You can ETKT with Qantas and Air NZ when connecting on them to AC, and have been able to for some time, so not sure why the agent would issue paper tickets. Even ac.com sells QF connections and Etickets them.
As to the money, it sounds like the agent authorised that amount from your account before ticket issue, which the bank removes as a "hold". After a set amount of days if the actual charge hasn't come through against that amount, it reverts back into your account. Just a matter of waiting for the agent to process the charge through as a charge. Can take a while.
If you want to check your booking and make sure ticket numbers and all that have gone through to AC, call the AC office in Auckland for verification.
