(world of warcraft) why is it so addicting?

  • any ideas?

  • WOW is basically a second life for people, where they can 'live' their second lives in a completely different settings, the way life goes on and how the environment responds to your actions i.e. the open-ended experience is what makes it so addicting. Its a good gaming genre, but I personally prefer a game with more than just advancing in levels and doing repetitive quests.

  • It's just the overall gameplay. It's what people want in video online MMORPG games. It's got some of that magic-fantasy stuff mixed with real things. It's just a whole new world that you control. I sound like a nerd, tell me about it. LOL but it's the truth.

  • reason why, many reasons.

depending on the person you are, and how you play your games will be a different "addiction" style

for example there are players who want to achieve everything, get the highest lvl with all characters, the armour and so forth, while others love making money (being traders), others just love it because they can interact with other people and make friends and socialize and group together to enjoy your online activities.

all in all the companies will always add content to make you keep pushing yourself, get that extra armour, even though it might only be +5 str or whatever, just that push to "be the best" kind of thing.

  • Subliminal messeges.

It's true, they're after your soul!

  • Cause it's a game that never ends, there's always something to do

  • It is total immersion into a fantasy world. When you watch a movie, you may empathize with the character, but you don't become the character. When reading a book, you become the character but you aren't immersed in the world.

The game has it all. The sights, the sounds, the storyline ... and you ARE a part of the world. There is always something to do, and it's not the same thing over and over again unless you choose that. You take on a new persona and can be the type of person you strive to be in real life (the powerful, the ogled, the guy everybody wants to be), and that can be very addicting to people who have real problems.

In real life, it's the same thing every day. Get up, go to school/work, come home, cook dinner, clean house or do homework, go to bed. Rinse and repeat. In the game, you don't have a boring schedule. You don't have to raise Kara if you don't want to; you could go fishing for an hour. You get to choose what you do, and it's always something that you find fun. Our daily lives are not always fun; they are hard work. We can't always find a team of people to help us with our "quests", and we don't have a guild who can loan us money when we don't have enough money for our new car. It is a simple life that some people prefer to reality -- and they become addicted.

  • I think its so fun because you can keep getting more and more powerful and there is always stuff to do. The boss encounters are an amazing thing to experience and are always fun.

  • cuz you're a loser

  • There is always something to do. if you set goals in the game u tend to want to do those and then you realize once u did that goal that there are all these other things you need to accomplish.

i myself enjoy the community it builds and the playing with the friends i have made. i love the PvP aspect of it, up to 140,000 honor kills...woohoo. they are constantly adding new things to the game and changing things around so its always a new experience and with the upcoming patch i cant wait to see what else they have in store for us. Plus lvl 80! Woohoo. i love getting more powerful. and i cant wait to see the new skills we get.

  • virtual crack that transfers into your blood-stream when your fingers touch the keyboard.

  • because blizzard made a game that is totally sweet. not only is it the next gen game style, but it has great graphics and amazing gameplay.
