Vista and YIM voice chat?

Posted by smith on January 6th, 2009
  • I have Vista on my HP laptop. Whenever I use Yahoo for voice chat, the sound goes to crap. It suddenly sounds all tinny and distorted, whether I'm using the laptop speakers or headphones. It starts as soon as I'm connected in a call, and the sound in all other programs is affected too. The only way to get it back to normal is to restart my computer. Does this happen to anyone else? Any ideas on how I could fix this?

  • Hey Ray... Even I'm going thru that same stupid thing ... It's really silly that you can do the voice chat in a single mode but not in conference, on the same computer!! .. Please anybody help me out to fix this problem ... Its really irritating...

    Thanks.

  • I haven't seen your problem, but I have a different problem with YIM and Vista. I have a Toshiba laptop running Vista, and I can use voice in the two person meeting mode, but when I go to the conference mode, I get an error message, "This computer does not support the required voice compression format". This doesn't make sense. Voice works in meeting mode, and it's the same computer in conference mode. Have you tried voice in both meeting and conference modes?

    Thanks, Ray
