Re-vamped site advice

I am re-developing our company website and i was wondering, if we use a lot of pictures, will this slow down the load up time? Does this depend on the size of the picture files, resolution etc.?

As for webcrawlers, if you have a lot of links within the main body of text, does this affect how they navigate the site? If there is a link early on in the page, will the crawler go through this link instead of crawling the rest of the page?

Is it true that website crawlers navigate the title tags of your site pages first and only really get keyords from them and the copy high up on your pages?

Also on keywords, does it matter what order they are in? For example, we are a utility auditing company, if a title tag says 'utility auditing, management and purchasing consultants' will the crawler treat each word individually or collectively as a sentance?

I have just graduated and don't really have a great deal of technical knowledge of websites, so any help you guys can give me would be appreciated.

    Cheers

  • If you have a lot of pictures, this will slow the site down so you should make thumbnails which link to the full size image. Their size depends on format and resolution and how much extra crap is in the images.

  • As far as keywords go, there are many resources on the net regarding keywords and how to make better ones. There are lots of freeware and shareware programs out there, but with a specialized business as the one you are working for, I wold do a lot of reading and then consult with the powers that be for a Keyword brainstorm session.
